Faith of My Father

Father’s Day passed without an Ode to my dad and I would definitely be selling him short if I didn’t say at least a few words about him here. Yes…especially after my big mother’s day tribute.

The most important lesson that I’ve learned from my dad in the last few years is that your health is the most important thing you have… period. When all else is falling apart around you, having your health is a light that keeps you hopeful for the future. And even if you health is less than perfect, like my dad’s, there is still so much to be grateful for...

My dad is a very positive thinker. He’s one that really believes in the outrageous possibility of things and the ability of an individual to accomplish any goal they set before themselves. He thought that perhaps I should go to the coast guard academy, or travel with the Peace Corps, and even planted the seed of being a music teacher in me. You might be thinking that he is a father that lives his dreams though his children and well, I don’t see that there is a lot wrong with that. He never makes the decision for me but I like that he believes in me enough to entertain the possibility of so many great things.

It is his steadfast belief that all things are possible and his ability to tell really bad jokes without any embarrassment, that have nurtured a faith and confidence in me that, along with my good health---thank you God---keeps me humming right along.

By the way I know the title has been lifted…please read John McCains’ book or see the DVD…great stuff.
