Near Record Rainfall

My 3 year old daughter gets scared of thunder and lightening, especially at night. One day, a few months ago, I was tired to being stuck in the house with the bad weather and put on the Sound of Music video. We never watch TV but I figured it would be a good escape and yes, it was perfect. You know the scene where Maria sings, My Favorite Things to all the kids on the bed while the thunder and lightening roar and flash outside the window? She hasn’t looked at thunderstorms quite the same since and I just keep reminding her that she’s inside and that storm is outside.

Well, this week has been another one of those really rainy weeks. She has wanted to go to the pool every day and between errands and the car breaking down we just haven’t made it. Then today, the weather man said there would be flood watches and get this--- 5.8 inches of rain fell in four hours. The city usually gets about 5.7 inches for the whole month. My daughter asks, “Can we watch the Sound of Music?” I said, "Yes," and I even popped us some popcorn.
